Bitmaps in DOS

I'm using Turbo C++, and I need to know if I can use a bitmap. I'm using BGI graphics. Is there a way I can open a bitmap using c++? How can I use it as a sprite in my program?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • dunno about sprites, but you can get the BMP file format from www.whatsit.com or .org can't remember which. the BMP file format is fairly simple to implement. then, reading each pixel, from the file(reading a bunch of them is faster),use putpixel to display it.

  • You could look up the bitmap structure in the msdn help.

One problem which u could face is.....

BGI supports only 16 colors so u'll have to convert your bitmap into one

    with 16 or less colors
