Symbolic Link Help --EDT-- FIXED

I am fairly new to linux and i was trying to symbolic link. I installed the latest version of mozilla browser sucessfully, i installed acrobat reader sucessfully. I am currently trying to install a java plugin for the browser. ok my libjavaplugin_oji.so file is in the

/opt/j2sdk_nb/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/

directory and mozilla is installed in the /usr/local/ directory
and the plugin directory is

/usr/local/mozilla/plugins

i went into that directory and used the symbolic link command

ln -s /opt/j2sdk_nb/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/
libjavaplugin_oji.so

and the following message resulted:

ln: creating symbolic link `./libjavaplugin_oji.so' to `/opt/j2sdk_nb/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so': Operation not permitted

why is this what am i doing wrong? is it somehow related to the directory i am in? or in the directory that these items are installed? acrobat is installed in the same folder as mozilla and a symbolic link to that *.so file had the same result.

---EDIT---
I figured it out I had the directory that the files were in /usr/local set as the mount point for a vfat partition. i moved all of the contents to another folder. and it works perfect.
