Getting object outline (edge display) from a .3ds file

Is there any way to get 3d object outline (displaying only edges of the 3d object)
from a 3d studion max (.3ds) file? I would like to know wheter it is possible or not?

    Yes, it's quite easy both with DirectX and OpenGL.
    You need a routine to read .3ds file (on www.wotsit.org, in the "3D graphics files" section, you can find the documentation about the 3ds file, how to read it and so on...) and then you can read the vertex coordinates in the file and display them as edges (in DX just use D3DPT_LINELIST as object type in DrawPrimitive).
