File ownership

I had to reinstall WinXP. I didn't reformat, and left my old files on the harddisk. Everything works fine, but now I don't have permissions to my files. So I can't use them.

I managed to copy the files to a Win95 computer with an NTFS(read only)-driver for Win95, so they are safe now. But I can't get rid of them from my NTFS harddisk.

I have tried to take over the rights for the files, but it doesn't work. They belong to a user: [long string of numbers] (that doesn't exist anymore), with a total of 1 GB. But when it lists all the files for that user the list is empty, so I can't take the ownership.

Are there any other way than reformatting and installing again?
