NCurses Program

I'm trying to write a program at the moment, I'm not quite sure what language to use because I normally use Visual Basic for windows, but I thought C or Python might be a good place to start.

Does anybody know of where I can find any resources to help me make a library that can make two 'windows' on a console, probably using ncurses or the like, then accept input on the lower one, echoing the commands and signalling an 'event' when the enter key is pressed, submiting that line of data and clearing the box.

As for the top box I'm trying to make it display either a line of different font text, or a set of bitmaps lined up, then when an event is called the bottom line will be deleted, the rest moved down and a new line added at the top.

I know this is quite a tall request, but does anybody know of any similar code that I might be able to adapt in some way, I have no knowledge of ncurses and a little of C/C++ and Python, but other than that I can't really prgram in Linux, but I can pick things up.

Any links, help, advice or sample code would be of great appreciation,

Thanks in advance,

Josh

There is already a program to do that, not sure exactly what it's called at the moment, since I'm not at home and don't use it.
If you still want to know how, after seeing the program, the source is, I believe, free, like many *nix programs.
