game code

I am interested in game programming and i think it would be a big help to see what the code for an actual game looks like. what do i have to do in order to see the code for a console game, and be able to manipulate it?

  • As far as i am aware there is only 2 ways to have a look at source code for a console game...

    1) Download a home made game that includes the source code. There are some on my site http://www.rbm.com.au/staticgerbil and if you are interested in gba code check out http://www.gbadev.org

    2) Find a disassembler for the particular console you have a rom for and disassemble it. You will get the assembly code for the game which will probably be not alot of use to you. Especially if you are a beginner.

I think for most consoles you should be able to read the source code in any text editor eg. Notepad.

    Hope that helps :)

sounds like you want to hack a game more than program it... no prob. thats what got me into programming in the first place. anyway, if youre interested in learning how to hack PS2 games, you may want to check out my site. its got a couple tutorials on it. plus its aimed toward those with no experience. my site is:
