I need some more information before I can help you with that.

Ok, RS-232, RS-232C, RS-232D are hardware standards for serial
communications with certain signals and voltages present.

    Your PC is using a 8250A/B/C, 16450, 16550, 16552 UART or combo
chip that operates like this. You can use a standard terminal
program to transmit the date to and from an engineering board
over a serial cable. The board itself has to be setup for
a null serial cable connection and has to have some way of
receiving a RS-232 type of communication, in other words
have serial communication routines already on the system and
running in the receiving mode when your PC sends the text
message in this case the date, with the special control characters.

Let me know what kind of board you are using so I can help you
with this further, it shouldn't be too hard to do. Heck you could
set up a macro on the PC to grab data from the board and update
the board when it is done getting information from it. It's pretty
    simple nowadays.
