C# and Web Matrix

My company will not buy VS.NET (yet) and I can't afford it. I have been using Web Matrix to learn the basics. It supports C# and VB.NET. What are the benefits and drawbacks?

Web Matrix can only be used for Web Applications. Another difference that is noticable is that when developing Web Applications you have a option of putting the page controller logic either in CodeBehind page or in the same UI page. Web Matrix (when I last used it) is default to the second option whereas VS.NET uses the CodeBehind scheme. There will be a new version of Web Matrix within a few days which includes many other enhancements. Check out http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/ page next week. Apart from these two IDEs from Microsoft, there is another OpenSource effort at http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/Default.aspx, It lacks many features from the standard VS.NET but always remember that it is under development. You must download both Web Matrix and SharpDevelop and give them a try. My opinion on this is to choose the IDE depending on the project you are trying to develop.
