cron executes jobs at the wrong times

turingturing Member Posts: 5
This may seem like a hoax, but here are the facts:

# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - edit the master and reinstall.
# (/tmp/crontab.1317 installed on Thu Mar 27 09:39:37 2003)
# (Cron version -- $Id: crontab.c,v 2.13 1994/01/17 03:20:37 vixie Exp $)
10 8 * * 1-5 cdplay
05 * * * * cjb.pl -s

Above is my crontab. As you can see, there is a cdplay job set to go off every weekday at 8:10, and a perl script ever day at five past the hour.

I don't know when the perl script goes off, but I can guarantee that the cdplay goes off AT 7:30 EVERY MORNING.

Has anyone ever encountered a case of cron doing that? going off 40 minutes early? (or 23 hours late, who knows?)

Any help is appreciated.

    As a small follow-up

IT ALSO GOES OFF AT THE RIGHT TIME!

I will invoke the name of the almighty in a minute if nobody can tell me why this is happening.

    to recap:

schedule a job for 8:10, it will go off 7:20 and ALSO 8:10!
