JavaServer Pages questions

Hi,

I'm writing my graduate work about comparision between php, asp.net and jsp. One chapter of my graduate work is about programming with those techniques. I would appreciate if you can give me an answer to 9 questions about JSP. You must agree that I can use your answers in my gradute work.
If you want to give your real name and title, those will also be mentioned, but it's optional. Otherwise I just use something like 'JSP-Expert(s) in www.programmersheaven.com'. If you can only answer a few questions, it would be great too. I'm writing it in Finnish language so it's probably no use to send the ready work for you. (sorry!)

questions:

1. Why did you choose JSP, and have you tried others? (asp,php,cfm..)

2. What are in your opinion the main advantages of JSP and possibly the
disadvatanges if there is some ?

3. Does JSP scale well up to larger solutions ?

4. Can JSP-programmer find easily books, advice, or education
to improve his/her skills?

5. What makes JSP better than the other similiar scripting techniques?

6. Is there many good programming tools available for jsp-programming, and what are you using for coding? (also your platform, windows/linux or?)

7. Do you think that JSP is going to get more popular in future, or is it's position weakening? (why?)

8. Are you using components (JavaBeans or other) with JSP, and how important role do those have in JSP-programming?

9. How long did it take you to learn basics of jsp-programming, was it easy or difficult ?

Hope you understood the questions and terms correctly, my english skills are not the best. Thank you for your answers in advance!

- Mika

    1. Why did you choose JSP, and have you tried others? (asp,php,cfm..)
-- I've tried several programming languages, I've done PHP, ASP but I
saw that PHP and ASP didn't work as good as JSP.

    2. What are in your opinion the main advantages of JSP and possibly the
disadvatanges if there is some ?
-- You can implement it in almost every kind of server.
    It is relatively fast.
It is based on Java so it Object Orientated too.

    3. Does JSP scale well up to larger solutions ?
-- It does, you can see by example with PHP that it is written in a
way that it will only work with small business solutions.
With JSP you can use a variety of solutions for larger solutions
like: JavaBeans, Enterprise JavaBeans, XHTML etc etc.

    4. Can a JSP-programmer find easily books, advice, or education
    to improve his/her skills?
-- I think they can, there are a lot of books written about JSP, look
at the books that come from O'Reilly, they are very good.
There are a lot of forums where you can ask questions about JSP,
    just like this one.
By my meaning there is a lot of information to find about JSP.

    5. What makes JSP better than the other similiar scripting techniques?
-- Like I said before it Object Orientated. That means that you can
create a good structure and that you can make an application
that can run on virtually every application server on every platform
as long as the server knows what to do with the JSP pages.
If you look at PHP and ASP you have do a lot of work to get an
application is such a state that it will run even if it runs like
    big business solution.

    6. Is there many good programming tools available for
jsp-programming, and what are you using for coding? (also your
    platform, windows/linux or?)
-- There are several good tools but the best tool i still use is
called WSAD (Websphere Studio Application Developer). This tool
has got almost everything for Webdeveloping with Java. It has all
tools inside but it needs a really good computer to run it.

    7. Do you think that JSP is going to get more popular in future, or is
    it's position weakening? (why?)
-- I think it is gonna be very popular in the future, you can see that
a lot of companies want a good application made in JSP just because
    it is so reliable.
    8. Are you using components (JavaBeans or other) with JSP, and how
important role do those have in JSP-programming?
-- I definitely use JavaBeans in JSP, it is one of the great things
about JSP. Because of the JavaBeans it is possible to save data
temporarily and get it out of the JavaBean whenever you need the
    information.

    9. How long did it take you to learn basics of jsp-programming, was it
    easy or difficult ?
-- It took me about a week to learn it. It wasn't really hard, but the
main thing you have to have is a good book about the subject.
As I said before, I used the "Java Server Pages" book from O'Reilly
and that helped my a lot, it explains everything in it.
But the thing is with JSP, if you don't get the right coaching
because i learned a lot of things I would never have thought of
if someone didn't explain me a lot of things, like JavaBeans and
    the use EJB's in JSP.
