Apache 2.0 htpasswd errors...

Hi all, I'm new here.

I'm having a problem with an Apache 2.0 web server (Redhat 8) and getting htpasswd to work.

Here's what I've got:
in my .conf file I've added:
Listen 8082

DocumentRoot /var/www/html/htpasswd_test

AllowOverride AuthConfig

in the directory /var/www/html/htpasswd_test I've created an htpasswd file with the command:
htpasswd -c /var/www/html/htpasswd_test/.htpasswd littlebill
which then prompted a password to which I simply typed 'test' for a simple password

I then created an .htaccess file in /var/www/html/htpasswd_test with the following:
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Passowrd Required"
AuthUserFile /var/www/html/htpasswd_test/.htpasswd
Require valid-user
Upon going to the webserver:8082 I'm prompted for a username and password to which I typed 'littlebill' and 'test'. And every time I got authentication failures. From what I can tell I haven't missed anything. I've also tried webserver/htpasswd_test/ (since /var/www/html/ is on port 80) which prompted for password and subsequently failed.

Help? :)
