    Add this line to /etc/fstab:

    /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,ro 0 0

On my system (Mandrake 8.1), it is:
    /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom auto user,iocharset=gb2312,exec,codepage=936,ro,noauto 0 0

    1."man fstab"
then "dmesg" which will output you a list of devices, search for lines starting hda, hdb, hdc and hdd. There you will recognize the name of your drive.
goto /etc/fstab and a line in a pattern like
    device/name (eg. /dev/hda) mountpoint (eg. /cdrom/) filesystem (iso9660) options(eg. ro,user,noauto)
don't forget to be the superuser for that (type "su" and then the requested pass) and don't forget that the file must have a blank line as the last line
    that's all ;-)
