Ask as much as you want. If someone buys it, what a heck...
If you ask if $300-500 is reasonable, I think it's way too steep
(hmmm, somehow I believe this is not what you wanted to hear).
I was shopping for PC just this weekend. I went to few stores
in my area and used system like yours sell for ca. $80-150.
New systems are something like this:
For $445 you get AMD XP1700+, 40Gb HD, 128Mb RAM etc. (no burner).
For $550 it is 1800+ with 256MB ram and 32x burner.
Some places charge more but this is what I got in less than 2hr search.
By the way, mentioned prices are in Canadian dollars.
    Anyway, you asked...

I learned this lesson with my P90... Its not worth selling any computer that old, if you have someone who could use it then donate it or sell it...cheap. Donating it to a charity or a school may be another option, think TAX BREAK, especially if you can write it off at the price you paid for and not what it is worth today. Keep it handy and redeploy it for a specific task, can You say FAX machine, Network router,etc...

    Hope this helps
