I run perl on my win nt 4.0sp4 machine my win xp machine, my win 98se machine, and my unix webserver :) What is your questions exactly? To install it on windows 98 it is simple, you just download the msi installer(not binaries unless you love compiling...) and it will install itself. However, if you are running before, i think its windows 98, then you will have problems because the base msi installer packages won't be on your system. Hope that helps...

I went to perl.com and got the binaries the first thing i did(bad choice) since trying to compile perl on win98 is hell(atleast for me;)).
Msi installer?..hmm never saw that one on the site. *goes to search for it*. If you got a link for it i would be very greatful:), thx.

    Hi,

Ah-ha...I think you want to be looking towards:-

    http://www.activestate.com/

You can download something called ActivePerl there, and that has the MSI installer. I'm not certian the distributions from Perl.Com have these. I've installed ActivePerl before without a problem...it seems pretty good to me.

    Good luck,

    Jonathan

Yay, i have no succesfully installed perl5 on my win32 system:D.
Active perl that is(thanks for the link jonathan:)). Just trying to figure it out now. I had a question though, is there any advantages/disadvantages for scripting perl under unix, linux or a windows system?

For general web hosting stuff and certainly running Perl, the UNIX platform, and particularly Linux, is far superior to the Windows offerring in terms of stability and security. Perl existed first in the UNIX platform first, but the port over to windows is pretty solid - for most of what you'll do, windows will be fine for scripting on, though I'd recommend if you host anything for the public to put it on UNIX/Linux servers.

    Hope this helps,

    Jonathan
