Question on Runtime Files - VB5

I need to run an app directly from the CD without using

a setup program on the users computer.

If I include all the necessary files that accompany the

executable on the root directory of the CD, will the

exe still run or will it look for the DLL's in the

users windows directory?

Is there a way to program the executable so that it will

use the DLL's and OCX files that are on the CD instead

of looking in the Windows directory?

Any help on this would be appreciated.

  • I won't swear to this, but I think an exe looks in it's own folder first then in the windowssystem folder.

    Thanks Leahcim,

I'll try that and let you know if it works.

I'm going to try it on a computer that does not

have any of the dll's in it's system directory

that way'll i'll know for sure whether it's taking

    them from the CD.

    Thanks again,

    Mark
