In a project I work in we have a database which is filled with great amounts of data (meaning thousands of rows). In the course of things however the need for new columns in specific tables appears. For that reason we are creating new columns via are C++ framework, (using insertcolumn e.t.c.) one at a time. We are wondering therefore wether it would be more efficient to create a temp table to keep all the data we already have, create a new table with the extra columns needed and the transfer the Data from the temp table to the new one?
We use SQL Server 2000 under windows 2000
