error message "coldn't spawn child process"

kamal_khankamal_khan Member Posts: 10
this is the decisive part of my html-file:

to make perl-files run i use apache as a local server.
"query.pl" is a perl-file within the cgi-bin directory.
whenever i've entered something in the textbox and click
on the "Send"-Button i get the following error message:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, you@your.address and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

looking into the error log i find the following message:

(2)No such file or directory: couldn't spawn child process: c:/apache/cgi-bin/query.pl

can someone tell me what this message exactly means?
the directory c:/apache/cgi-bin/ with the file "query.pl"
definetely exists!

    I presume you have installed Perl?

    i've written the query.pl-file with the
    msdos-editor and then i've compiled it
    by using activeperl-5.6.0.616
    i know that additional preconditions are needed
    (microsoft windows-installer and modperl) but
    the files i've downloaded from download.microsoft.com
    and activestate.com just don't work

    Can you run the Perl script from the command prompt?

    i've tried out that with other perl-files before and it works without problems. but the query.pl-file contains the following lines:
    print "Content-type: text/html

    ";
    print "CGI Test";
    print "

    Feedback of the Script

    ";
    this should create a html-file. but these lines are interpreted as a normal text if you run the query.pl-file from the command prompt, so that you get the following lines on the screen:
    Content-type: text/html

    CGI Test

    Feedback of the Script

    That should work. However, if you believe it is a script side problem, use the CGI modules commands to print the header for you, thats the only thing I can think of that could be having a problem without further information about script(for me, internal server errors ALWAYS mean its a problem with my code :) )

    now i've read that the httpd.conf-file has to contain the path of my perl-interpreter-mainfile. i just want to know the syntax. what do you have to write before the path?? in case the path of the interpreter's mainfile is "c:perl_intperl.exe" you have to write something like:
    xxxxxxxxx c:perl_intperl.exe
    what do you have to write instead of xxxxxxxxx ???
    i'm searching just for the keyword!
