QuickBasic and Windows XP

kinnearpkinnearp Member Posts: 1
Hi

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times.

I'm having problems with QuickBasic in Windows XP. Namely, as soon as I run QB.EXE (in either COMMAND prompt, or CMD shell), NVTDM (the dos handler) CPU usage jumps up to 99%. I can work in QB fine for a while, but eventually it hangs because of the extreme CPU usage. Is there any way I can reduce this? I've tried compatibility modes and changing memory settings to no avail.

If anyone has any tips for this, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Kinnear

Think it's bad now? Try using some EMS routines! Win XP is a great new OS and all, but DOS compatibilty sucks big time. One way around the problem would be to partion you hard drive (NOT WITH FDISK) and install Win 95 or Win 3.1 on the new partion.

It's a pain in the ass but it should do the trick :)

Try using QBasic version 7.1 (available here... http://qbutil.hypermart.net ). This is the one I use, and all it does is warns you that you'll get no tech support or anything by using this is another OS besides DOS... I never use the COMMAND prompt myself, just open it like any other program. Oh, and QB 7.1 is legal (see http://www.eagleperch.net) and is also called QBasic eXetended (QBX). If this doesn't help...well, post something!;)
