DOS won't recognize drives

RoanRoan Member Posts: 2
I am running
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600].

When I try to access the A drive in DOS, weird stuff happens.
The A drive works perfectly in Windows.

C:>cd a:

C:>

It reads from the floppy and kicks me back to the previous directory.
I know that the floppy is itself working because I accessed a
document on it.

C:>edit a:whatever.doc

This allowed me to edit the doc in the DOS editor.

It does something similar when I try to access the f drive,
my Iomega Zip 250. This drive also works perfectly in Windows.

C:>cd f:

C:>

It won't read from the Zip disk at all.
Anyone know what I should do to access to the A and F drives in DOS?

Try the Windows messageboard. This is the MS-DOS messageboard; WinXP is not DOS.

Sorry, that last one went wrong. Here it comes again:

You don't use cd - that means Change Dir and you don't have a dir on your hard disk that is called a:, have you?
So you type [blue]a:[/blue] to switch to drive a and then [blue]cd games[/blue] to go to a:games.
Or, from C:, you type [blue]dir a:games[/blue] to show the contents of a:games.
